ONE Championship Set to Electrify Shanghai on Sept. 1
Asia’s largest and the world’s most exciting mixed martial arts organization, ONE Championship, has announced its second event in China this year, which is set to take place in the vibrant city of Shanghai.
The stage is set for another blockbuster night of world-class mixed martial arts action on Sept. 1, as the Mercedes-Benz Arena is set to play host to ONE: Dynasty of Champions (Shanghai).
ONE middleweight world champion Igor “Lionheart” Svirid will headline the spectacular fight card as he defends his title against Vitaly Bigdash.
“Shanghai will be ONE Championship’s next destination and we are excited to bring our world-class brand of MMA action to the colorful city of Shanghai!” said Victor Cui, the CEO of ONE Championship.
“Shanghai is the largest city in China by population and as such, it serves as the perfect setting for our second event in the country," he added.
“We want our events to resonate with fight fans and give them the best experience, one that they can truly enjoy. ONE: Dynasty of Champions (Shanghai) is shaping up to be another intense fight night. Fans in Shanghai will finally get their wish and experience our live show for the first time ever this Sept. 1. Brace yourselves for a night of explosive, adrenaline-pumping action as the arena will be packed to the rafters!” Cui added.
Igor Svirid is the top middleweight star from Kazakhstan who took care of fan favorite Leandro Ataides in just 17 seconds to win the inaugural ONE Middleweight Championship in Singapore’s ONE: Battle of Lions show last year.
Known for his fierce striking, Svirid hasn’t been beaten since losing his first bout as a professional mixed martial artist four years ago.
The towering middleweight has since improved his record and is riding a 10-fight win streak, seven of which ended within the distance. Svirid is ready to defend his belt against tough Russian prospect Bigdash.
Making his ONE Championship debut, Bigdash fights out of Rostov-on-Don, Russia, and is currently undefeated after seven professional fights.
None of his bouts have reached a decision, winning all contests either via submission or by knockout. Bigdash is in for a true test however, as he challenges Svirid in a colossal clash between two world-class middleweights for the chance to capture the ONE Middleweight World Championship.
The card is also expected to feature local Chinese mixed martial arts stars. The two previous events in mainland China have helped to raise the sport’s profile in the country.
