Taekwondo Federation Chief Has Advance Praise for AIMAG 2017
The World Taekwondo Federation (WTF) is one of the organizations that govern the sport of taekwondo internationally, and its president recently took the stage during the media conference for the Asian Indoor and Martial Arts Games in Ashgabat, Turkmenistan.
“I am honored to be speaking before you at this prestigious 2015 Turkmenistan International Sports Media Forum as president of the World Taekwondo Federation,” said Chungwon Choue, who has been the WTF’s head honcho since 2004.
“On behalf of the entire global taekwondo family, I want to express my heart-felt appreciation to each one of you for your support for taekwondo and the World Taekwondo Federation.”
Taekwondo is of course one of the many martial arts in existence today. Its origins can be traced back to Korea. The discipline uses primarily powerful kicking techniques and this differentiates it from other forms of combat sports.
Taekwondo has also been an official Olympic sport since 1992.
Choue proceeded to tell a story of how his father, the late Young-seek Choue, and his dream to help Korea recover physically and mentally from the devastation of the 1950-53 Korean War.
Like his father, Choue continues to strive to push taekwondo as a means to foster peace and well-being.
“Since I took the helm of the World Taekwondo Federation in June 2004, I have always believed that sport can and should promote world peace. The importance of sport as a catalyst for peace and harmony can never be underestimated,” said Choue. “Sport has the power to bring people together, bridge differences and promote communication and understanding.”
The sport is one of the many sports included in the next iteration of the Asian Indoor and Martial Arts Games and will provide an avenue for many young athletes to compete on the global stage and bring honor to their nations.
The games, which will be held at a sprawling world-class Olympic Complex — one of the largest sporting facilities in all of Asia. It is in phase 2 of construction with test events already taking place. The complex has been developed at a remarkable pace.
The games feature popular TV and viewer-friendly sports not found on the official Olympic Games program, such as dance sport for example and electronic gaming (e-gaming). The martial arts variant will also feature said taekwondo as well as muay thai, sambo, jiu jitsu, and wrestling, among others.
"Working together with the global Olympic families, the WTF will continue to work tirelessly to better serve all of humankind through sport,” added Choue. “The WTF is truly committed to serving mankind through taekwondo as a sport for all."
