Jakarta. Following the success of the "Italian Design Day" exhibition held earlier this month, the Italian Cultural Institute Jakarta unveiled a "Living Italian Design" exhibition at LAFLO in South Jakarta on Thursday (17/03).

The exhibition showcased more than 50 products made in Italy including furniture, leather goods and ceramics from 43 Italian design firms.

Curator Cosmas Gozali said he wanted guests to feel as though they had spent a night in Italy when browsing through the exhibition.

"It’s a challenge to interpret Italian design from an Indonesian architect's point of view. When I worked on this exhibition, I wanted people to feel and get in touch with the real Italian designs," he said.

Even though the exhibition displayed a diverse range of Italian products and design, Cosmas said he took a different approach when exhibiting them.

"I always like to create something different. I try to expose [Italian products] in a different way by creating unique installations and arrangements. I also added some bright colors to make it more appealing, allowing the guests to take appealing photographs," he said.

In the exhibition, Cosmas played with colors and lights to showcase Italy as a nation full of vitality, energy, romance, love and tenderness using flowers and water.

A room full of white and red flower ornaments located in the corner of the showroom represented femininity and romance.

Meanwhile, the bathroom was adorned with hanging balloons and bottles attached to the ceiling.

“I wanted to create Instagram-worthy spots in the exhibition as much as I could, so people would want to take plenty of photographs,” he said.

A colosseum was built in the middle of the showroom, along with vibrant colored walls with elegant wallpaper.

Showrooms in the exhibition were also divided into five small rooms, each with different themes, in an attempt to capture the feel of roaming through an Italian city.

Cosmas said he hopes the exhibition would encourage young Indonesian designers to learn from the Italian designers.

"We know Italian products last for a long time. I want to bring Indonesian designers [to this exhibition] to learn about Italian architects, not only in terms of the design of the products but also the history behind the designs itself,” he said.

Director of ICI Jakarta, Michaela Linda Magri, hopes the exhibition will raise awareness about the history and the evolution of Italian designs.

The exhibition will remain open until March 23.
