Plaza Indonesia Celebrates 27th Anniversary With Fashion, Art Exhibitions
Jakarta. Plaza Indonesia, one of Jakarta's more popular upscale shopping malls, will celebrate its 27th anniversary with live music, fashion and art performances on Saturday (11/03).
"This year marks our 27th since we first opened our doors; a very important milestone for us," Zamri Mamat, general manager of marketing and communications at Plaza Indonesia, said during a press conference on Wednesday.
"We want Plaza Indonesia to become a one-stop destination for Jakarta's young and dynamic urban communities this year," Zamri added. "We want to be the main hub for the city's art, music and fashion communities."
According to Astri Abyanti, senior manager of digital marketing and public relations, Plaza Indonesia celebrated previous anniversaries by hosting gala dinners for its loyal shoppers and tenants.
"But this year, the celebrations will be open to the public," Astri said. "There will be special parties and performances on every floor of the mall, from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m."
Between 2-6 p.m. on Saturday, the mall will host a meet-and-greet session for children with Clumsy Smurf, one of the characters featured in the upcoming film "Smurfs: The Lost Village."
At 7 p.m., visitors will be able to enjoy a special performance by the popular Jakarta hip-hop community, Cul De Sac Collective, which features rapper Ariel Nayaka and R&B singer Teddy Adhitya.
At the same hour, shoppers will be able to listen to a special musical performance by Bandung-based pop band Mocca in a different part of the mall.
According to event organizers, the celebration will also feature several unique art exhibitions.
On Wednesday, the mall's fourth floor atrium premiered the art exhibition "Ke-Nekt-Tid," directed by local photography community Kelas Pagi. The exhibition, funded by art director Anton Ismael, showcased work by young photographers.
"With this exhibition, I would like to encourage people to become more connected with one another through technology," Anton said.
Members of Kelas Pagi have created five separate installations to be formally presented at Saturday's anniversary celebration. Each installation will allow visitors to interact with the artwork through what the artists call "motion sensors."
"Ken-Nekt-Tid" will be open to the public until the end of March.
The anniversary celebration will also mark the return of the mall's own fashion event, Plaza Indonesia Fashion Week (PIFW).
"This will be our 10th PIFW this year," said Ria Juwita, senior manager of events and promotions at Plaza Indonesia. "We will showcase a lot of exciting collections by talented Indonesian designers, as well as from international brands."
PIFW, which will be held at The Warehouse on level 5 on March 20-25, will present fashion collections from 31 Indonesian designers and four international ones.
Among the top local brands to be featured are Auguste Soesastro, Danjyo Hiyoji, Didiet Maulana, Rama Dauhan, Pop U by Populo and The Goods Dept. The international designer labels on display will include BCBGMAXAZRIA, Coast, Karen Millen and Kate Spade.
"Their collections will showcase the dynamic lifestyle of today's young generation," Ria said.
Fashion designer Rama Dauhan, for example, will present a sporty, ready-to-wear clothing line for women.
"I am dedicating this collection to millennial women," Rama said. "The collection features young, feminine and playful styles, which are suitable for their fast-paced lifestyle."
Didiet Maulana, another Indonesian designer, has called his collection for PIFW 2017 "Ikat Urbanesia."
"The collection features dynamic street styles," Didiet said. "All of the featured pieces were crafted using traditional Indonesian handwoven fabrics."
"We hope our [anniversary] programs will inspire Jakarta's creative communities and encourage innovative collaborations in the future," Zamri said.
