More Than 4,000 to Join BRI Run on Next Jakarta Car Free Day
Jakarta. State-owned Bank Rakyat Indonesia, or BRI, will hold a running race on Jakarta's Car Free Day this Sunday, Dec. 4, with around 4,500 runners expected to be entering the competition.
The first ever BRI Run will feature two separate races, a five-kilometer run and a 10-kilometer run, with free registration for all participants.
All 4,500 slots have been filled earlier this week.
"The 2016 BRI Run will involve running enthusiasts and running communities to celebrate the 121st anniversary of BRI. We want to share our happiness with the people," BRI corporate secretary Hari Siaga Amijarso told the press on Tuesday (29/11).
BRI, the second-largest state lender, will offer around Rp 132 million ($ 9,500) in prize money for the BRI Run.
The race will take place along Jalan Jenderal Sudirman — which is always emptied of cars and motorbikes on Car Free Day — as well as on blocked-off stretches of Jalan Pattimura.
“We don't have exclusive rights to use the Car Free Day routes, but our race marshals will kindly request people to prioritize the runners in each intersection," BRI Run race director Pandu Buntara from Mesa Race Management said.
The event will also feature DJ Kartika Ayu and legendary local band Gigi.
BRI has also launched an Android application to help runners find the race routes and locate water stations. The app also provides other features and information related to the event.
