Jakarta. After the Malino and Toraja Run, the South Sulawesi regional administration is preparing for another sporting event, dubbed as the Bira Beach Run, scheduled for July 1.

The event will take place at the Tanjung Bira Beach in Bulukumba, South Sulawesi, annually. The deputy district head Tomy Satria Yulianto said in a statement received on Friday (23/06) that participants will be able to enjoy the beautiful scenery while running.

"We hope that aside from running, participants will also enjoy the natural beauty of Tanjung Bira," Tomy said.

Bulukumba Tourism Agency head Ali Saleng also said that runners will be presented with an extraordinary panorama during the competition.

"The route will be 8 kilometers in length. After passing the highway, runners will also climb on top of Pua Janggo hill, then descend along the Bara Beach to eventually meet Bira Beach, which will be 3 kilometers in length," Ali said.

The 2017 Bira Beach Run, along with the Malino and Toraja Run, are part of the Explore South Sulawesi Run Competition.

South Sulawesi tourism development head Yulianus Batara Saleh added that the event's committee will try to invite as many participants as possible.

Tanjung Bira beach has very soft white sand, exotic underwater panoramas and an incomparable view. Visitors will be able to see the sunrise and sunset on the open water, known for its vibrant colors.

There are also several tourism spots surrounding the beach, such as the Kambing and Liukang islands, offering tourists not-to-be-missed diving and snorkeling opportunities.

Travelers can also enjoy the local culture by visiting local Phinisi, or traditional two-masted sailing ship, crafters.

Tourism Minister Arief Yahya praised the running events in the region, saying they have a very high potential to boost tourism in the region.

"60 percent of the tourists coming to the area for sport tourism will become repeater visitors."
