Indonesia and Jamaica Set to Establish Sport Exchange Program
Jakarta. The Indonesian government is set to establish a sport exchange program with Jamaica, in which the best athletes from each country will pass on their knowledge to their counterparts.
Deputy minister for sports development, Gatot Dewa Broto, along with other Sports Ministry executives on Thursday (06/10) welcomed the Jamaican Ambassador to Indonesia Ricardo Allicock at the ministry's office in Jakarta.
The meeting was also intended to seal a collaboration between the two countries to improve Indonesia's performance in athletics and the Jamaicans in badminton.
"This partnership will benefit both of us. Jamaica will send athletics coaches to Indonesia, and Indonesia will send badminton coaches to Jamaica. The idea is similar to the program we've had with Suriname, we've sent badminton coaches there too," Gatot told the sports ministry official website.
"We'll work hard to make this program a success. We've seen how Jamaica's athletes are always encouraged, from primary schools to senior high schools, its competition is also very well organized — this is what we're learning from," he added.
The Asian Games 2018 will be the next target in line, with Indonesia expecting to gain more medals as the host country.
