Indonesia Open Comes in June With $1 Million Prize
Jakarta. The 2017 BCA Indonesia Open Superseries Premier will take place at the Jakarta Convention Center, or JCC, in South Jakarta on June 12-18, with more than 300 shuttlers from 21 countries.
Indonesia Open, an event endorsed by the Badminton World Federation (BWF), is considered the best in the world in the Super Series category, said Yoppy Rosimin of the organizing committee.
The second-tier tournament is only below top-tier events such as the Sudirman Cup, World Championships, or Thomas and Uber Cups.
"We have obtained the best points [in the BWF classification] for organizing this tournament and we also have the best audience, game quality and prizes," Yoppy said at a press conference in Jakarta on Monday (22/05).
Players will compete for a $1 million prize, the highest in the Super Series.
The Indonesian representation will consist of mainly young players, and at least one title is expected in men's doubles.
"We seek to win one title with our rising stars Marcus and Kevin who have just clinched a hat trick of tournament wins at the 2017 Malaysia Open," Indonesian Badminton Federation spokesman Ricky Soebagdja said.
Ticket prices for the tournament range from Rp 35,000 ($3) to Rp 1.5 million.
