Erwin Rijanto Picked to Be Bank Indonesia Deputy Governor
Jakarta. The House of Representatives is set to approve Erwin Wijanto as the new deputy governor of Bank Indonesia in a plenary meeting on Tuesday, replacing Halim Alamsyah whose tenure will end in June.
Erwin, currently executive director of financial system surveillance at the central bank, received 42 of 53 votes from House Commission XI members, the commission's chief Fadel Muhammad said on Monday.
The commission, which oversees the country's financial institutions, completed fit-and-proper tests on three candidates on Monday.
Out of favor were the other two central bank executives: Dody Budi Waluyo, who serves as executive director of the strategic and governance management department, and Hendy Sulistiowati, the executive director of the statistics department.
Erwin, as new deputy governor, would have to help with banking legislation and set Bank Indonesia monetary policy, and communicate with the public about central bank policies in the future.
