Boxing Legend Chris John to Groom New World Champions From Indonesia
Jakarta. Boxing legend Chris John wants to help up-and-coming pro boxers from Indonesia rise through the ranks with his Indonesia Boxing Championship which began in June.
"I want to help out local boxers, so they can challenge for the national championship, just like I did," Chris said.
The new boxing championship only accommodates the featherweight class at the moment but will include more categories once it gets better ratings. Ultimately, the champion boxer — Indonesia's first featherweight world champion — wants to groom new world champions from Indonesia.
"First we want to improve the boxers' technique. We also want to attract more local boxers to the championship," Chris John Indonesia Ltd chief executive Longines Tamio said.
32 of Indonesia's best local boxers had entered the new competition. After the group stage, only 16 boxers were to fight for the title of champion.
13 episodes of the Indonesia Boxing Championship will get an airing on local TV channels every Friday at 10 p.m., starting this Friday (02/09).
