Indonesia's Women's Boxing Top Figure Joins International Federation AIBA
Jakarta. The secretary general of the Indonesian Boxing Association Pertina, Shelly Miranda, has been appointed to join the International Boxing Association AIBA's Women's Commission for the 2016 to 2018 period.
Ching-Kuo Wu, AIBA president, said the world boxing's governing body acknowledges Shelly's expertise in boxing.
"I believe that what you have is a good asset for our sport development in the future. Thus, AIBA welcomes you as a member of the commission and looks forward to working with you," Ching-Kuo Wu said in an open letter to Shelly on Wednesday (16/11).
Shelly was previously a technical delegate to AIBA and is now the first Indonesian woman to hold a post in a world boxing association.
Meanwhile, Pertina chairman Johny Asadoma said Shelly's appointment is part of his mission to push Indonesia's boxing figure in the AIBA.
He said by helping as many Pertina figures into the body as possible, Indonesia will reap benefits including international promotion of local boxers.
Johny had also been appointed as a member of AIBA's Regulation and Technical Commission for the Sept. 2016 to 2018 period.
