Malaysia's Petronas May Consider Relocating Canada LNG Project: State News Agency
Kuala Lumpur. Malaysia's state-owned oil firm Petroliam Nasional may consider relocating its Canadian liquefied natural gas, known as LNG, export terminal project, state news agency Bernama said on Monday (13/02) quoting chairman Mohamad Sidek Hassan.
He said the company, better known as Petronas, would relocate the $27 billion Pacific NorthWest LNG project if the Canadian authorities find the move necessary.
Petronas holds a majority stake in the project, which has come under fire from environmental groups and aboriginal communities who say it will increase greenhouse gas emissions and destroy a critical salmon habitat.
Media reports said that Petronas had identified a new location for the plant to cut costs and address environmental concerns.
