Holcim Inaugurates Cement Terminal in Lampung
Jakarta. Holcim Indonesia, the third-largest cement maker in the country by production volume, inaugurated a new cement terminal in Lampung as part of its strategy to improve efficiency by getting closer to its customers, the company said in a statement on Friday (11/11).
Construction of the Rp 400 billion ($30 million) facility was completed last month.
"This terminal uses the latest technology and environmentally friendly equipment and a jetty to support the operation," Holcim Indonesia president director Gary Schutz said in a statement.
The terminal – which is designed to process up to a million metric tons of cement annually – is built on 4.7-hectares in Rangai Tritunggal village, about 28 kilometers from South Lampung district in Lampung.
Schutz said the presence of the facility in Lampung also shows the company's commitment to invest in the country while supporting local communities.
Holcim operates cement factories in Lhoknga (Aceh), Narogong (West Java), Cilacap (Central Java) and Tuban (East Java). About 60 percent of the company's cement supply is sold in Java, with the remainder in Sumatra and the eastern part of Indonesia.
The local unit of the Switzerland-based LafargeHolcim Group posted Rp 160 billion in net losses in the first nine months of this year, narrowing by 57 percent compared to the same period a year earlier as the company managed to cut operating costs.
Holcim and its rivals in Indonesia have underutilized production capacity after massive investment in cement plants in past few years has yet to see an increase in domestic demand.
