IMF Boss Lauds Jokowi's Economic Reforms, SME Program
Jakarta. International Monetary Fund managing director Christine Lagarde lauded President Joko "Jokowi" Widodo's economic reform program on Monday (26/02), especially for making it easier for small and medium enterprises to obtain business permits.
The government plans to implement an online single-submission system by April this year, making it easier for entrepreneurs and investors to file and complete their business registrations.
The plan is the part of a 2017 presidential regulation aimed at simplifying and integrating business licensing processes that pushing regional and central governments to cooperate in the single-submission system.
The system will be streamlined with the one-stop integrated service center facility (PTSP) implemented in January 2015.
"Indonesia's economy continues to prove resilient with sound economic performance and a favorable outlook. I commended the president and his team on their successful economic management and strengthened policy frameworks," Lagarde said in an official statement on Monday.
She explained that she and President Jokowi discussed the importance of achieving strong potential growth for job creation. She added that it requires assembling the country's revenues to fund spending development and supporting reforms in the product, labor and financial markets.
"In my meeting with the president, we discussed recent economic developments and the outlook for Indonesia, as well as the upcoming IMF-World Bank Annual Meetings in Nusa Dua, Bali, in October this year," Lagarde said.
She is visiting Indonesia to monitor preparations for the IMF-World Bank meetings, which will be attended by 15,000 participants from 189 countries.
"We look forward to holding the 2018 IMF-World Bank meetings here in October 2018, and I would like to thank the authorities for their excellent cooperation. While we will, of course, continue to monitor developments with regard to
Mount Agung, we are moving ahead as planned to have a very successful annual meeting in Bali," Lagarde said in a statement the Jakarta Globe received.
The volcano started erupting at the end of 2017, forcing the closure of the island's international airport.
President Jokowi also took Lagarde for impromptu visits to Tanah Abang Market in Central Jakarta and Pertamina Hospital in South Jakarta on Monday.
