Olympic Gold Medalists From Asean Get Free Flights for Life on AirAsia
Jakarta. Asia's biggest budget airline will award free tickets for life to athletes from member states of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations who won gold medals at the 2016 Rio de Janeiro Olympics, AirAsia chief executive Tony Fernandes said on Wednesday (23/08).
Those who would be able to fly with AirAsia and AirAsia X to more than 120 destinations in Asia, Australia, the Middle East and Africa, are Indonesia's badminton's mixed doubles pair Tontowi Ahmad and Liliyana Natsir; Thailand's weightlifters Sukanya Srisurat and Sopita Tanasan; Singapore's swimmer Joseph Schooling; and Vietnam's air pistol shooter Hoang Xuan Vinh.
Silver and bronze medalists will also be able to fly for free with AirAsia for five and two years, respectively, Fernandes said.
"What an Olympics this was for Asean [member countries]. AirAsia, which has its roots in Asean, wants to reward those who gave us so much joy," the chief executive said on social media.
"Also, they taught and reminded us never to give up on your dreams and to never stop believing that you can be the best in the world," he added.
