AirAsia X Indonesia to Fly From Bali to Japan
Jakarta. AirAsia X Indonesia, the local branch of Malaysian long-haul budget airline AirAsia X, will start operating direct flights to Tokyo from Denpasar, Bali, on May 24, in a bid to cater to the growing exchange of tourists between Japan and Indonesia.
The announcement came after the airline has secured an approval from the Ministry of Transportation on March 16 and from Japan's Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport, and Tourism.
"We would like to thank both the Japanese and Indonesian ministries, and all other relevant authorities for their support. The launching of this direct flight will contribute to the economies of both countries," AirAsia Indonesia president director Dendy Kurniawan said in a statement on Tuesday (21/03).
The flights will operate four times a week on Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Sunday from Denpasar's Ngurah Rai Airport at 11.00 p.m., arriving to Narita Airport in Tokyo at 7.10 a.m. Flights from Tokyo will depart at 8.25 a.m. and reach Denpasar at 2.25 p.m.
On the newly launched route, the airline will operate an A330-300 Airbus with 377 seat, including 12 Premium Flatbed seats.
"Japan currently ranks third on the list of foreign tourists visiting Bali; we also see a constant growth every year," Indonesia AirAsia X president director Sulistyo Hanung Nugroho said.
In 2016, the Central Statistic Agency (BPS) recorded at least 235,009 Japanese tourists in Bali, a 3.06 percent increase from 2015.
Meanwhile, according to the Japan National Tourism Organization data, there were 270,000 Indonesian tourists in Japan last year, up 32 percent from the year earlier.
