Budget Airline Scoot to Fly From Palembang to Singapore in November
Jakarta. Singapore Airlines budget arm Scoot will open a new route from Palembang, South Sumatra, to Singapore on Nov. 23, catering to the growing number of Singaporean tourists.
"We see a great potential to strengthen Scoot brand presence in Indonesia. With this additional route from Palembang and with other previous three routes that have been operating in Indonesia, it shows our effort to expand and develop Scoot brand in the country," Scoot chief executive Lee Lik Hsin said in a statement on Friday (20/10).
In late July, Scoot completed its merger with Tigerair and now operates all of the latter's routes in Asia Pacific, Saudi Arabia, Australia, China, Greece, India and the United States.
With the increasing popularity of Bali, Scoot will also add flights from Singapore to Denpasar. From Nov. 23, its A320 aircraft will fly thrice a day to the holiday island.
Scoot will also increase the number of flights from Singapore to East Java's Surabaya from 41 to 53 times a week.
The number of Singaporen tourists visiting Indonesia rose to 945,008 between January and August, 0.6 percent more compared with the same period last year.
Expansion
By the end of this or in the early 2018, Scoot plans to start operating flights to Honolulu (US), Harbin (China), Kuantan and Kuching (Malaysia).
By June next year, it will have 64 destinations in 17 countries. To support its expansion plan, Scoot will operate 15 units of 787 Dreamliner aircraft and 23 Airbus A320 aircraft.
