Cellphone Distributor Erajaya Opens Flagship Store in Depok
Jakarta. Publicly-listed Erajaya Swasembada, a handset manufacturer, distributor and retail provider, opened doors on its biggest flagship store the southern outskirts of Jakarta on Thursday banking on the resilient purchasing power of Indonesian consumers.
Operating under the company's subsidiary Erafone Artha Retailindo, the Erafone Megastore Margo City in Depok covers a 600-square-meter area and offers over 14 brands of smartphones and tablets, according to a statement received by the Jakarta Globe on Friday.
"We're opening our biggest outlet during an economic slowdown and a depreciated local currency. We see this challenge as a momentum for growth, proving our commitment for Erafone to continually innovate," said Jeremy Sim, chief executive for retail at Erajaya.
Erajaya has been on expansion mode this year with the opening five Erafone Megastore outlets so far this year, totalling to 17 Erafone Megastore outlets across Indonesia. It also launched the trial production of its assembly plant in East Jakarta recently.
The company is planning to open two more outlets in Bengkulu and Medan, North Sumatra, over the next week according to the marketing and communications director at Erajaya, Djatmiko Wardoyo.
The expansion plans seemed to have serve the cellphone distributor well so far this year after sales have risen nearly 30 percent to Rp 8.7 trillion ($618 million) in the first half. Still, rising operating costs and foreign exchange losses ate into the company's bottom line.
