IFC, Asia Green Capital to Build 62.5MW Wind Farm in South Sulawesi
Jakarta. The International Finance Corporation and Danish wind turbine manufacturer Asia Green Capital Partners have signed an agreement with the South Sulawesi provincial government to develop a 62.5-megawatt wind farm.
“IFC’s support to Asia Green Capital Partners and the Jeneponto One wind farm reflects our commitment to helping the Indonesian government increase a reliable electricity supply to more Indonesians, particularly in the eastern part of the country,” Sarvesh Suri, the IFC’s country manager for Indonesia, said in a statement released on Monday.
The Jeneponto One wind farm will be funded by the IFC, the private financing arm of the World Bank Group, through its $150 million global infrastructure development fund, IFC InfraVentures, making it the IFC’s first wind energy investment in East Asia, according to the statement.
The wind farm will be developed by Asia Green Capital Partners’ local affiliate, Energi Angin Indonesia, according to the statement. It is expected to supply power to more than 450,000 people through the South Sulawesi electricity grid.
“Being one of the first large-scale wind projects in Indonesia, Jeneponto One will set a milestone in the country’s renewable energy sector once it is completed,” Edgare Kerkwijk, managing director of Asia Green Capital Partners, said in the statement.
“We are grateful for the support of the governor of South Sulawesi and IFC and hope to complete proprietary work for the project by the end of this year.”
After the Jeneponto One wind farm, Asia Green Capital Partners aims to continue expanding its renewable energy projects across Indonesia, including plans for a second wind farm in South Sulawesi, Jeneponto Two.
Indonesia has the potential to generate up to 9,000 MW of electricity from wind power but the country currently only has 1.9 MW of installed capacity, according to the statement.
