Mercedes-Benz Starts Local Assembly for GLC SUV
Jakarta. Mercedes-Benz Indonesia, a subsidiary of German car manufacturer Daimler AG, has started local production of its GLC SUV, the sixth in its short list of locally assembled luxury cars, a senior official of the company said on Tuesday (24/05).
“More customers are interested in the GLC after it was launched at the Gaikindo Indonesia International Auto Show (GIIAS) last year,” said Roelof Lambert, the president and CEO of Mercedes-Benz during a press conference at the car company's 42-hectare Wanaherang plant in Bogor, West Java.
Lambert said the company will roll out the car in the second semester of this year.
All the components for the GLC are imported from Germany and Mercedes-Benz will sell more than 70 percent of the cars assembled at its Wanaherang plant to the local market.
Mercedes-Benz started assembling its luxury C-Class, E-Class, S-Class, GLE and GLC-Class cars in local Indonesian factories in 1978.
