Telkom to Acquire Teleguam
Jakarta. Telekomunikasi Indonesia International, a subsidiary of state-controlled telecommunication company Telekomunikasi Indonesia, or Telkom, is in talks to acquire AP Teleguam, the parent company of GTA Teleguam, a telco provider in Guam.
The acquisition is part of Telkom's larger plan to expand its business in the international market, for which the firm has reached an agreement with Advantage Partners, a Japanese private equity firm, said Telkom wholesale and international business director Honesti Basyir.
He declined, however, to disclose the cost of the deal.
“Guam is a very attractive market in which to expand our business; its gross domestic product per capita is high. The country has adopted the latest fixed line and cellular technology, and its human resources are also improving,” Honesti said on Monday.
Guam, a US territory located in the Pacific, is home of 161,000 people with a per-capita income of $28,000 in 2014, according to CIA World Factbook.
Telkom and GTA Teleguam have been cooperating for over a year to develop the South East Asia — United States (SEA-US) submarine cable system that will help meet the increasing demand for bandwidth between the Asia Pacific and North America.
