Jakarta. Uber, the app-based ride-hailing service, has introduced a new feature called UberXL, an on demand ride service offering larger seating capacity to accommodate groups traveling together, the company said in a statement on Wednesday (18/01).
"Customers are able to book UberXL service, with a seating capacity of up to six people — without any extra baggage — and four people with extra baggage," the company said in the statement.
Uber claims that the UberXL service is more cost effective for people who want to ride in groups, because they do not have to book for two UberX vehicles — the company's most basic private car service which limits the number of passenger to four.
The estimated cost of an UberXL ride from Bekasi in West Java to Jalan Gatot Subroto in South Jakarta at 02:00 p.m. on Wednesday is Rp 70,000 ($5.24). The same trip would cost Rp 50,000 on UberX and Rp 90,000 on UberBLACK, the luxury version of Uber's service.
UberXL was first introduced in San Francisco in May 2014 and later in London the same year. Malaysia and Singapore were also able to enjoy the UberXL service since 2015.
