Kendari Mayor and SE Sulawesi Gubernatorial Candidate Named Bribery Suspects
Jakarta. The national antigraft agency named Kendari Mayor Adriatma Dwi Putra and Southeast Sulawesi gubernatorial candidate Asrun bribery suspects on Thursday (01/03) following their arrest in a sting operation the day before.
Asrun and his son Adriatma are implicated in corruption involving the procurement of goods and services for the city.
Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) investigators also arrested Fatmawati Faqih, the former head of Kendari's treasury and asset unit, and Hasmun Hamzah, president director of construction company Sarana Bangun Nusantara.
KPK commissioner Basaria Panjaitan said Adriatma is suspected of having receiving Rp 2.8 billion ($196,000) from Sarana Bangun Nusantara in two payments, to fund Asrun's gubernatorial campaign.
Asrun is planning to participate in the upcoming regional elections with running mate Hugua, supported by the National Mandate Party (PAN), Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDI-P), Prosperous Justice Party (PKS), People's Conscience Party (Hanura) and Great Indonesia Movement Party (Gerindra).
Asrun served as Kendari mayor for two periods before his son took over the position in 2017.
Sarana Bangun Nusantara has been working on various infrastructure projects for the Kendari local government since 2012. The company won a Rp 60 billion tender in 2018 to build a road to Bungkutoko-Kendari New Port.
