Jakarta. Maneger Nasution of the National Commission on Human Rights, or Komnas HAM, demands that state institutions be present in resolving the recent assault on the national antigraft agency's investigator.

Novel Baswedan, a senior investigator at the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) suffered serious burns after unknown men threw acid on him near his home in Kelapa Gading, North Jakarta, in the early hours of Tuesday (11/04).

"Komnas HAM calls on the state authorities to unveil the case down to its roots. The incident may be related to Novel's duties. He has been investigating several major [graft] cases, including the e-KTP [corruption scandal]," Maneger said in Jakarta later that day.

"We will observe the work [of police]. We trust them. Independent and professional, they will be able to resolve this," he said.

Meanwhile, Indonesia Corruption Watch coordinator Abdullah Dahlan said that the attack serious threat against the efforts to eradicate corruption.

"The police should be able to reveal the masterminds behind this case. We have requested the KPK to provide additional security for its staff," he said.

Abdullah also urged all anticorruption activists to unite against the threats and intimidation.
