Supreme Court Clerk to Be Stood Down Over Graft Allegations
Jakarta. The Supreme Court will soon stand down Rohadi, a North Jakarta District Court registrar who has been named suspect for alleged graft surrounding a verdict in a sexual abuse case that has implicated dangdut singer Saipul Jamil, a spokesman said.
Rohadi was accused by the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) on Thursday of receiving Rp 250 million ($18,700) in bribes from two of Saipul's lawyers, Bertha Natalia and Kasman Sangaji, as well as his brother, Samsul Hidayatullah.
The Supreme Court is currently awaiting the copy of a letter from the KPK informing about Rohadi's suspect status, court spokesman Suhadi said on Friday, as quoted by CNN Indonesia.
"After this, we will directly revoke his status a registrar."
KPK investigators arrested the four in sting operations in several locations in Jakarta on Wednesday, when they seized Rp 250 million in cash contained in a plastic bag.
The North Jakarta District Court on Tuesday sentenced Saipul to three years in prison, lower than the prison term of seven years sought by state prosecutors for the singer, who was found guilty of sexually assaulting a 17-year-old boy.
