Supreme Court to Issue Regulation on Corporate Crimes Soon
Jakarta. A court regulation guiding law enforcement institutions on how to investigate and prosecute corporate crimes is expected to be issued soon, an antigraft commissioner said on Tuesday (18/10).
The Supreme Court is currently still drafting the regulation, which will see corporations being held responsible if their leaders are implicated in criminal offenses benefiting the corporations.
The drafting of the regulation is expected to conclude soon, Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) deputy chairman Laode M. Syarif said.
"The draft regulation is 95 percent finished. All that is left now is its signing by the Supreme Court," Laode told reporters in Jakarta.
The court previously received input from the KPK, the National Police and the Attorney General's Office in drafting the regulation.
"After this, we will be able to work well because there will be guidelines in place," Laode said. "This is a strong message to businessmen to stop bribing state officials and influencing public policies."
Several laws have stipulations about corporate crimes, but law enforcement institutions have complained that a lack of provisions on the matter has made them hesitant to act against corporate crimes.
