Jakarta. Indonesian cyclist Liontin Evangelina Setiawan finished fifth in the women's junior individual road race at the 2017 Asian Cycling Championship in Bahrain on Wednesday (01/03).

Indonesia's team manager Budi Saputra said that the 17-year-old cyclist, better known by her nickname Angel, felt defeated after losing the last sprint.

Angel finished third in the women's junior individual time trial on Sunday, her first race in Bahrain, but struggled to make it to the podium in her second race.

Angel battled alone, without compatriots in the women's junior individual road race, which is considered unfavorable as racers in this category often rely on team strategy, Budi said.

"Angel struggled against other cyclists from China, Japan, Thailand and Taiwan. At first, we expected Angel to reach the podium again, but it was very hard for her to race alone without teammates," Budi said in a statement.

"She couldn't escape from the blockade created by the other teams in the last five kilometers," he said.

Following the result, Budi said that the team coaches will help Angel better prepare for future sprints.
