Whitehouse Set to Defend His Title in Tour de Flores 2017
Jakarta. Briton Daniel Whitehouse is set to defend his title in this year's Tour de Flores, which will kick off in Larantuka, East Nusa Tenggara, on Friday (14/07).
Whitehouse, 22, won the inaugural event last year as part of Malaysia's Terengganu Cycling Team by finishing the five-stage race in 18 hours, 11 minutes and 43 seconds. He was two minutes faster overall than second-placed Benjamin Prades of Spain and three minutes faster than another Spaniard, Ricardo Garcia, who finished third.
Whitehouse, who finished second in the eighth Le Tour de Filipinas in February, will race for Laos's CCN Cycling Team this year.
"We're very happy that defending champion Whitehouse will take part in Tour de Flores 2017; hopefully his presence will make for a competitive and attractive race," Tour de Flores chairman Primus Dorimulu said in a statement on Tuesday.
The second edition of the annual cycling event, sanctioned by world governing body Union Cycliste Internationale (UCI), will take place on July 14-19.
It has attracted more than a hundred cyclists competing for 19 teams from Indonesia, the United Kingdom, the European Union, Africa, Japan, South Korea, China, Australia, Thailand, Laos, Iran and Malaysia.
The 721.6-kilometer race will take place over six stages.
