BPBD Tips Natural Disasters to Hit Medan in Oct.
Jakarta. The Regional Disaster Mitigation Agency, or BPBD, in Medan, North Sumatra, has encouraged the community to prepare for possible floods and landslides with agency personnel monitoring the situation around the clock.
“There are at around 20 personnel standing by for 24 hours in the surveillance posts," Hannalore Simanjuntak, head of BPBD in Medan, said on Thursday (15/09).
The personnel will be deployed directly to disaster sites to provide assistance in the case of flash flooding, tornadoes or extreme weather.
Sunardi, head of the Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) in Medan, said the area should expect extreme weather throughout October.
Heavy rain and strong winds are common, he said, but the public should be alert to any threats.
