Jakarta. President Joko "Jokowi" Widodo is expected to visit the scene of the deadly flash floods in Garut district, West Java, on Monday (26/09) to monitor disaster mitigation efforts, a local official said on Sunday.

The National Disaster Mitigation Agency (BNPB) announced on Friday that 27 people have died and 22 others were still missing in the floods that hit the area on Sept. 20. However, according to state-run Antara news agency, 32 bodies had been found by Saturday.

Several ministers, including Social Affairs Minister Khofifah Indar Parawansa, Health Minister Nila M. Moeloek, Infrastructure and Public Housing Minister Basuki Hadimuljono and Education Minister Muhadjir Effendi, have been tasked by the president to visit and take concrete actions to assist the victims.

"We have received a report that President Jokowi will visit here tomorrow," Garut district head Rudi Gunawan said, as reported by Detik.com.

He added that the Garut administration will hand over reports on fatalities and damages to the president.

The authorities have deployed a joint team of around 1,600 members of the Garut BPBD, National Search and Rescue Agency (Basarnas), National Police, Indonesian Military (TNI), Indonesian Red Cross (PMI) and volunteers in the affected areas.

They have also established emergency and first-aid posts, as well as dispatched basic necessities to more than 400 residents who have been evacuated from the areas.
