Volcanic Ash From Mount Agung Eruption Shuts Down Lombok Airport
Jakarta. Indonesia's aviation authority on Thursday (30/11) decided to shut down Lombok International Airport in West Nusa Tenggara at least until midnight as volcanic ash from the Mount Agung eruption in the neighboring island of Bali was again detected in the area.
State-owned airport operator Angkasa Pura I has announced that planes bound for Lombok can be rerouted to Surabaya's Juanda Airport or Bali's I Gusti Ngurah Rai Airport.
Mount Agung has been spewing smoke and volcanic ash since Saturday, forcing authorities to shut down airports in Bali and Lombok several times.
Bali's airport has been operating normally since Wednesday afternoon after being shut down for two days.
Airnav Indonesia operational director Wisnu Darjono said a total of 62 flights took off from the airport on Thursday morning, carrying passengers who had been stranded on the island since the weekend.
