Rosan P. Roeslani Takes Over the Helm at Kadin
Bandung. Rosan P. Roeslani, leader of Recapital Group, won the chairman race for the country's most influential business lobby, the Indonesia Chambers of Commerce and Industry, known as Kadin, for the 2015 to 2020 term.
In a closed voting system at Kadin’s congress in Bandung, West Java, Rosan secured 102 votes out of the total 132 eligible voters —consisting of representatives of business associations and Kadin’s regional chapters — to replace Suryo Bambang Sulisto as Kadin chairman for the next five years. A number of voters abstained.
Rosan's Recapital is involved in private equity business with a portfolio spanning various assets from finance, mining, media to resort property. He beat his only rival Rachmat Gobel, the patriarch of family-controlled Gobel International, who secured just 27 votes.
The announcement of the vote came at 10.45 p.m.
Kadin is the only business body acknowledged by the government for policy consultation, which makes the chamber a powerful medium to voice out views from the business community.
In his vision and mission speech, Rosan called on the business community and entrepreneurs to consolidate, to make Kadin a worthy government partner to formulate policies.
“We can make make weekly reports, monthly, or three monthly and yearly [to the government], so that the data can be used,” he said.
He also emphasized the priority for the nation to strengthen the palm oil sector. Indonesia, the world’s biggest palm oil producer should be able to determine the price at the international market, he said.
Rosan highlighted the need for Indonesia’s young to develop the creative economy and push for development of start ups in Indonesia.
