LPDP Scholarships to Change Makeup of Indonesia's Human Resources
Jakarta. The Indonesian Endowment Fund for Education, or LPDP, is trying to attract more students from all over Indonesia to join its scholarship programs.
Speaking at a seminar organized by the Finance Ministry — which manages LPDP — in Jakarta on Thursday (02/03), president director Eko Prasetyo said his agency will play a big part in making Indonesia's target of becoming a developed country by 2030.
"Our job is to make sure Indonesia has the best human resources in the long term," he said during the "Indonesia's Human Resource Development Focus for 2030" seminar.
He said LPDP is constantly evaluating its scholarship programs to make sure they play their part in advancing Indonesia's economy.
"Developed countries like South Korea have been doing the same. They've been running programs similar to the LPDP," Eko said.
LPDP has so far given scholarships to 16,295 students studying at the world's top universities. This year it uses up Rp 22.5 trillion ($1.69 billion) from the state budget.
