University of Indonesia Produces Best Local Workers: Ranking Agency
Jakarta. Quacquarelli Symonds, or QS, a London-based international ranking agency in higher education, has just released a new ranking for universities who produce the best workers worldwide, with Stanford University in the United States topping the list, while Jakarta's University of Indonesia took the number one spot in Indonesia.
The 2018 QS Graduate Employability Ranking list is assessed according to employer reputation, alumni outcomes, partnerships with employers, employer-student connections and graduate employment rate.
Globally, the world's top universities who have produced top-class workers, ranked from the very top, are Stanford University, University of California in Los Angeles, Harvard University, The University of Sydney, Massachusetts Institute of Technology, University of Cambridge, The University of Melbourne, University of Oxford, University of California in Berkeley and Tsinghua University.
QS placed University of Indonesia (UI) in the 251-300 global ranking category.
"The third edition of the QS Graduate Employability Rankings indicates [that] the University of Indonesia is the country’s strongest provider of highly employable graduates. It is also the nation’s leading provider of highly successful alumni, measured by the 'alumni outcomes' indicator," QS stated in a press release received by the Jakarta Globe on Wednesday (06/09).
"UI graduates are also the country's most highly esteemed by international employers surveyed by us," it added.
Bandung Institute of Technology (ITB) and Gadjah Mada University (UGM) are also included in the 251-300 tier.
In August, the Ministry of Research, Technology and Higher Education released its own ranking of the 100 best universities in Indonesia, with UGM topping the list, followed by ITB in second place, Bogor Institute of Agriculture third and UI in fourth.
The ministry assessed the universities according to educational research and publications, human resources, institutional operations and students' extracurricular activities.
In a report published in the Jakarta Globe in June, UI was rated the best university in Indonesia, followed by ITB and UGM in second and third spots, according to another assessment by QS.
UI, UGM and ITB have traditionally been the country's top and most prestigious universities.
Among high-profile public servants in Indonesia, President Joko "Jokowi" Widodo, Jakarta governor-elect Anies Baswedan and the country's first female foreign minister, Retno Marsudi, are all graduates of UGM, while Finance Minister Sri Mulyani Indrawati, Coordinating Economic Minister Darmin Nasution and the head of National Development Planning Agency (Bappenas), Bambang Brodjonegoro, are UI graduates.
The higher education minister, Mohamad Nasir, obtained his masters degree at UGM.
Bandung Mayor Ridwan Kamil, Tourism Minister Arief Yahya and former coordinating economic minister Hatta Rajasa are graduates of ITB.
