Jakarta. After the case of malnourished sun bears in Bandung Zoo went viral on social media with criticism directed toward the city's administration, Mayor Ridwan Kamil on Thursday (19/01) took to his Instagram, Facebook and Twitter accounts.

Ridwan said he has no control over the issue, since the zoo is not managed by his administration, and told those concerned to address a petition to the Ministry of Environment and Forestry.

"Bandung administration has been urging the Ministry of Environment since last year to take tougher action with regard to this issue," Ridwan wrote on Facebook, adding that the administration has also sent a complaint letter to the zoo's management.

On his Twitter account, the major said that problem was not due to shortage of money, but the ministry's reluctance to act.

A petition by Scorpion Wildlife Trade Monitoring Group has attracted support from more than 20,000 people.

Environment and Forestry Minister Siti Nurbaya has not commented on the issue.
