Clowning Around Town
Dozens of clowns participated in a march in Central Jakarta on Wednesday (14/03) to celebrate the second congress of the Indonesian Clown Artist Society, or Pasbi.
Participants wearing clown costumes began gathering at the Sarinah shopping center on Jalan M.H. Thamrin in Central Jakarta from 7.00 a.m. before marching to the National Monument (Monas).
Among them were Anggoro (39) and his son Aciro (10). Anggoro, who has been a clown since 1996, said a person must be strong and never give up to succeed in this profession.
He has been supporting his family over the past 22 years with the income he earns as a clown and is now passing on his knowledge and skills to his son.
Master clown H.M. Mupriyanto (73), widely known as Indonesia's original Ronald McDonald, also took part in the march and delivered a short speech.
As someone who has been a clown for 40 years, his philosophy is that money does not matter, as long as being a clown means making people happy and making them laugh.
He said clowns will never go extinct and continue to amuse people from all walks of life around the world.
