Jakarta. Jakarta's new airport train that will take passengers from the center of the capital city to Soekarno-Hatta International Airport on its outskirts was officially tested on Tuesday (26/12).

A promo fare of Rp 30,000 ($2) per passenger will be available from December to January. Operator Railink will start charging the normal fare of Rp 70,000 on Jan. 2.

The train now only stops at three stations: Sudirman Baru, Batu Ceper and Soekarno-Hatta. A train will be available at each station every 30 minutes.

A new platform for the train is still being built at Manggarai Station in South Jakarta.

Tickets for the airport train are available from vending machines at the stations, mobile apps (available only on the PlayStore at the moment) and online from the official Railink website.

Some passengers have already complained about the complicated procedure for buying the tickets, which requires you to register your email even at the vending machines.

"It's fine with me since I use email all the time, but what about the old folks?" asked one passenger at Sudirman Baru Station.

The airport train has 10 cars with a total capacity of 272 people. A total of 42 round trips are available every day from 3 a.m. to 11 p.m. It takes around 55 minutes to get from the city to the airport.

Once it is fully operational, the train will alight at Manggarai, Sudirman Baru, Duri, Batu Ceper and Soekarno-Hatta.
