Jakarta. Indonesian celebrity, television host and fashion designer Ivan Gunawan launched his eponymous cosmetics line at The Pallas in Jakarta on Wednesday (08/11).
"The idea to start my own cosmetics line began about seven years ago, when I was traveling abroad and came across the [cosmetics] brands by famous Hollywood celebrities," Ivan told the Jakarta Globe after the launch. "I became very passionate about [the idea] and wanted to create my own line."
Ivan then conducted thorough research on cosmetics and found what he liked and disliked about some of the top brands.
"I know a lot about cosmetics," the 35-year-old designer said. "It is something I wear a lot, especially for TV shoots."
Ivan then teamed up with local cosmetics firm Kosmetikatama Super Indah to develop his brand.
"Ivan is a maestro fashion designer," Kosmetikatama Super Indah managing director Hernanto Wibowo said. "We feel honored to support his dream and produce his cosmetics line."
Ivan's first cosmetics series is named "Under the Stars."
"My cosmetics would evoke the aura of a star in every woman," the designer said.
The debut series consists of three shades of lipstick and lip cream, two shades of lip liner, blusher, bronzer, highlighter and two shades of eyebrow gel.
"These are classic products women would always keep in their purses," Ivan said. "Made in natural shades, [the cosmetics] would be easy to mix-and-match with women's daily wardrobes."
The packaging of the products is simple, yet elegant.
The blushers, bronzers and highlighters are available in glossy black compact cases with the designer's name neatly engraved in gold on top.
"We thought very carefully about the packaging," Ivan said. "We want them to really represent my personality. And women should also feel proud carrying them around in their purses."
The lipstick also comes in polished black tubular cases, which open when pushing the gold panel on top.
Ivan's cosmetics are now available in major department stores, cosmetic shops and online shops in Indonesia.
On the same day, the fashion designer also released his 2018 women's fashion collection, also themed "Under the Stars."
"For this collection, I was inspired by Hollywood's red-carpet scenes, which involves celebrities and divas dressing up glamorously and presenting their best selves," the self-taught fashion designer said.
Ivan's dresses are reminiscent of the iconic fashion styles of 1950s Hollywood darlings, such as Elizabeth Taylor, Lucille Ball and Marilyn Monroe.
Ivan turns classic swing dresses into modern cocktail gowns with creative modern twists to the necklines and sleeves. Sequins and crystal embellishments also add a touch of glamor.
The fashion show culminated in the display of a sparkling white evening gown, heavily encrusted with beads and crystals. An elaborate silver tiara by top Indonesian accessory designer Rinaldy A. Yunardi completed the model's regal look.
Ivan's first solo fashion show on Wednesday also marked his 13th year as a fashion designer. He plans to present a solo fashion show every year from now on.
