The Khadeeja: Muslim Clothing for Active Women
Jakarta. Khadeeja holds a special place in Islam. The first wife and follower of Prophet Mohammad is admired by many for her unwavering faith, piety and kindness to others.
Premium Muslim wear label Si.Se.Sa presented its 2018 fashion collection themed "The Khadeeja" at the ballroom of Fairmont Hotel Jakarta on Wednesday (18/04).
"Khadeeja is a great inspiration for all women. She was a strong woman, good wife and mother, as well as successful merchant," Si.Se.Sa creative director Sansa Enandera told reporters before the show.
"This collection is dedicated to today's Khadeejas, who also multitask as a wives, mothers and career women," she added.
Si.Se.Sa represents the names of its founders: Siriz Tentani, Senaz Nasansia and Sansa Enandera — daughters of Muslim fashion designer Merry Pramono, who decided to follow in their mother's footstep and set up a fashion label in 2011.
In 2013, the young women decided to dedicate their label to Muslim clothing for women, in accordance with the guidelines of Koranic law. The clothes should not be similar to men's wear, should not be tight or transparent, and should cover the entire body except for the hands and face.
Muslim women are also advised to wear a khimar, which covers their heads, chest and derriere.
In spite of the strict rules, Si.Se.Sa sisters manage to be creative with their designs.
"The Khadeeja" features 75 looks, all of which consists of loose-fitted A-line gowns. Beautiful color combinations and rich details make each of them look unique and special.
The show opened with six models wearing black dresses and elongated varsity jackets, adorned with oversized letters of the fashion label at the back, which conveyed a message that Si.Se.Sa is also going to appeal to the younger generation.
A sporty look was also introduced by the label in the first sequence of the show, with some of the dresses embellished with ribbed cuffs and hemlines that allow more movement.
The sporty look also appeared in the second sequence, which featured long dresses made of soft cotton blends in vibrant colors. With ruffles and pleats around the leg area they also give extra room for movement.
Oversized emblems and contrast stripes along the sleeves and sides made the dresses look even more sporty and stylish.
"Sports have become today's lifestyle. With this new style, we want to ensure that Muslim women can maintain their sharia look while participating in sports," Sansa said.
In the following sequence of the show, Si.Se.Sa showcased office wear, with loose-fitted dresses, long vests, jackets and overcoats.
"[The vests, jackets and overcoats] are made of twill, which is light, breathable and wrinkle-resistant," the creative director said.
The designers also introduced their new label Ti.Te.Ta, which offers Muslim clothing for little girls.
The new label was presented by celebrity mothers and daughters, including Adelia Pasha and her daughter Princess Kayla Mutiara, Annisa Trihapsari and her daughter Aqueeni Aziz, and Dina Lorenza with her daughter Najla Ghatan.
The fashion show culminated with a wedding gown in dusty pink, adorned with cascading ruffles, floral embroideries and Swarovski crystals.
"Si.Se.Sa has given a new color to Indonesia's fashion industry with this new collection. Their dresses are both beautiful and wearable for a lot of daily activities," BNI Syariah division head Rima Dwi Permatasari said after the show.
The new collection will soon be available at Si.Se.Sa boutiques in Jakarta, Surabaya (East Java), Medan (North Sumatra) and Makassar (South Sulawesi).
