Actor Reza Rahadian to Make Short Film for UNDP's Clean Water Campaign
Jakarta. Indonesian actor Reza Rahadian is set to make a short film about people living in East Sumba, East Nusa Tenggara, in his new role as a public ambassador for the United Nations Development Programme, or UNDP.
Named as a Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) Mover earlier this April, the award-winning actor takes on a role "to raise public awareness on the importance of SDGs as a global agenda to eradicate poverty and improve the well-being of Indonesia's 250 million people," according to a statement by the UN organization.
Participating in UNDP's "Bring Water for Life" online crowdfunding campaign, Reza will focus his film on the villagers of Napu Village in East Sumba, who must make a 10-kilometer trek by foot every day just to get clean water.
"I was offered by the UNDP to create a short film that will describe life in Sumba, just a short clip," Reza recently said, as quoted by Antara News.
The short film will start shooting by the end of April when Reza pays a visit to the village. The aforementioned campaign aims to raise Rp 350 million ($25,000) to fund the installation of solar-powered water pump to provide better access to clean water to the population in the area.
"UNDP Indonesia is very happy to see Reza Rahadian join us as a SDGs Mover. Reza brings not only his fame and talent but also his personal commitment to help people have a better life," said Christophe Bahuet, the country director for UNDP Indonesia.
Prior to Reza's appointment, young singer and actress Eva Celia Lesmana was alsoo named SDGs Mover by UNDP last March.
