HBO's Newest Drama Series 'Succession' to Debut in June
Jakarta. HBO's newest drama explores themes of power, politics and money in a family-controlled international media conglomerate.
"Succession" is created by Jesse Armstrong and Adam McKay. Set in New York, it stars Brian Cox as Logan Roy, the tough, powerful, aging patriarch of Waystar Royco, the family-run international media conglomerate; Jeremy Strong as Kendall Roy, Logan's eldest son from his second marriage, the heir apparent; Kieran Culkin as Roman Roy, Logan's outspoken and fun-loving son, and Kendall's younger brother; Sarah Snook as Shiv Roy, Logan's only daughter, who has been pursuing a career in politics; and Connor Roy, played by Alan Ruck, Logan's eldest son from his first marriage.
The story revolves around the four siblings in conflict, as their father plans to step down from his media empire.
"All through history, moments of succession are points of conflict. Whether it's the Roman Empire, Babylonian Empire, succession is tough, and often in political and national history, when a king, queen or leader has to leave the stage, they can find they want to linger in the limelight longer than anyone thought," the series showrunner, writer and executive producer, Armstrong, said.
"Succession, at its root, is a family story," said director and executive producer McKay.
The tragic side of the story will show how massive wealth and power distort and wound a family.
"I think it's the specificity of the way Succession characters are drawn, with wry humor and heart, and the caliber of this ensemble cast, that make the Roys stand out in the crowded field of family drama," said executive producer Frank Rich.
The series will be on air in June.
