Jakarta. The Ministry of Tourism has set a carnival event to celebrate Indonesia's 72nd Independence Day in Bandung, West Java, for Saturday (26/08).
The event, dubbed the "2017 Parahyangan Independence Carnival," has carried the theme of "lighting the spirit of cooperation."
"The carnival will be attended by the best endorser in Indonesia, President Joko 'Jokowi' Widodo," Tourism Minister Arief Yahya said in a press conference in Jakarta on Tuesday.
The president will ride a specially designed float during the carnival.
The carnival’s curator team chairman, Aat Suratin, said it would reflect the spirit of cooperation and partnership, as the committee will involve people from other famous festivals in Indonesia, such as the Jember Fashion Carnival, the Solo Batik Carnival and the Tomohon International Flower Festival.
"We will also show several traditional communities in West Java, which will perform in the event," Arief added.
Bandung Mayor Ridwan Kamil said the carnival carries the message of unity in diversity.
"I believe that on Saturday, [the event] will be viral and massive. We will clean up the chosen routes, as there will also be animals joining the parade," Ridwan said.
The carnival will start on 8 a.m., with a route spanning up to 2.2 kilometers from Bandung’s Simpang Lima to the Savoy Homann Hotel, Merdeka Building and Bandung Square (Alun-Alun Kota Bandung).
It will also involve various youth and cultural communities in Bandung, as well as other public organizations. The carnival has followed a new tradition to close the series of celebrations for the independence month that started in 2015.
