Singer Kunto Aji on the Hunt for Folk Musicians
Jakarta. Folk singer Kunto Aji, who rose to fame through the Indonesian Idol talent competition, is seeking young artists who are able to rearrange national songs and local folk music.
According to Kunto, there is a need for Indonesia's younger generation to establish an artistic space that supports performances in folk artistry and traditions.
"They are aware of the value of folk music, but there hasn't been any space to perform local folk songs," he said during a recent Nescafe Musik Nation event in Jakarta, as quoted by Antara.
Kunto, along with singer Barry Likumahuwa, are mentors in the talent search event. He admitted that the event has attracted hundreds of interesting video content for audition. He also mentioned that the materials that they have received are creative both musically and visually.
According to Kunto, a talent search event that focuses on bringing national songs and folk music is one of many aspects that could fuel nationalism in the country.
"The younger generation will not be moved to learn folk music without some sort of bait," he said.
