Jakarta. Indonesia's Tourism Ministry is busy promoting the country's appearance in the upcoming Europalia Arts Festival in Europe, where Indonesia is set to be the guest of honor.

The biannual festival will be held from Oct. 10 until Jan. 21 in several European countries including the United Kingdom, the Netherlands, Belgium, Germany, Poland, France and Austria.

It will feature hundreds of cultural events, dance and theater shows, music performances, literary events, screenings and exhibitions.

The ministry is doing promotion for Indonesia on major European TV channels including the BBC and Bloomberg, and on digital platforms Google, YouTube and TripAdvisor.

Advertisement promoting Indonesia's appearance at the festival will also be plastered on buses in France, on black cabs in London and prominent buildings in Belgium.

Tourism Minister Arief Yahya said the festival should be an effective medium to attract more tourists from Europe to Indonesia.

"We have a target of attracting two million tourists from Europe this year," he said.

That is a 25 percent increase from the 1.6 million Europeans that visited Indonesia last year. The Europeans are expected to bring $3.2 million in foreign exchange revenues.

The ministry will erect a Wonderful Indonesia Pavilion in Brussels to promote tourist destinations in Indonesia. They will also invite the Belgian press to free trips to Jakarta, Yogyakarta and Solo.
