The Consulate Offers an Unparalleled Dining Experience in Surabaya
Surabaya. The Consulate fine dining restaurant in the East Java capital offers modern Japanese and Western cuisines, in addition to more traditional dishes served with the latest approach in gastronomy.
Located in a busy Surabaya street, the restaurant offers guests a tranquil and homey atmosphere. The Consulate has a beautiful interior with a combination of romantic and elegant colors, such as red and gold, with flower-pattern wallpaper. Dimmed lighting in the dining area creates a relaxed and more intimate setting. Candles and small bouquets of roses on the tables complete the scene and set the tone for a romantic dinner.
Guests can indulge in a seasonally changing menu, while the ambiance of the Spanish colonial heritage architecture undoubtedly offers an ideal location for private dining events, parties, and pre-wedding photo shoots. There are three luxurious and elegant rooms in the building. The-red-and-gold designs blend beautifully with original Moroccan and Spanish architectural features, such as patterned tile floors, tall windows and high ceilings adorned with luxurious chandeliers.
The showstopper is the fabulous garden bar and lounge, located just behind the building, decorated with pot plants, comfortable sofas and chairs. The bar is under a huge Banyan tree, with birdcages hanging above it, making it a wonderfully sociable, welcoming and relaxed place to visit and spend time with family and friends.
Skillful chefs combine the finest ingredients to ensure that every dish will satisfy diners' palates and expectations.
The meticulously composed Western menu includes a wide variety of dishes. Starting from contemporary appetizers to main dishes, such as sumptuous steaks, to exquisite heavenly desserts.
The restaurant does not only serve Western food, but also an array of fresh oriental dishes from the Land of the Rising Sun. The restaurant's menu offers many exquisite Japanese dishes, starting with delightful appetizers, exotic sushi, fresh sashimi, cold and warm noodles and magnificent meat dishes.
Nyoman, one of the top-five chefs in Surabaya, served guests a four-set dinner. The obligatory wagyu shabu salad, made with sliced, slightly boiled wagyu beef, rolled boiled spinach and chicory topped with sesame dressing, presented diners the taste of Japanese umami.
A plate of légine, or Chilean seabass followed. It consisted of fish topped with a cheesy sauce with crushed black pepper, served with cauliflower.
The kitchen staff displayed their skill with the least flashy dish, Australian beef strip loins. A noble piece of beef is briefly seared and sliced thinly. It is laid on top of mashed potato, accompanied by seared vegetables with garlic soyu (soy) butter sauce. The meat was very tender and easy to pull apart, while the garlic soyu sauce added a hint of sweetness. It is a perfect combination of Western and Japanese cuisine.
For dessert, a hot pan of chocolate soufflé and vanilla ice cream sprinkled with powdered sugar was served on a wooden tray. A scoop of vanilla ice cream added sweetness to the soufflé, making it the perfect way to end the dinner.
With its comfortable, elegant and spacious dining area, the restaurant not only serves the best food in a luxurious setting, it also offers diners great hospitality and service.
The average cost of a meal varies from around Rp 200,000 to Rp 1 million ($15-$75).
