Coach Djadjang Resigns From Persib, This Time for Real
Jakarta. Persib Bandung coach Djadjang Nurdjaman has resigned — this time for real — after the team suffered two losses and one draw in a week in Indonesia's top-tier football league Liga 1.
Djadjang, who had threatened to resign last month but was persuaded by the team's management to stay, said Persib's 1-2 defeat by East Kalimantan side Mitra Kukar on Saturday (15/07) finally convinced him stepping down was the right move.
"This time the decision is final and I believe the management will allow me to leave," the 52-year-old coach said after the game against Kukar.
Earlier on July 9, Persib was beaten 1-3 by Madura United and on July 12 it was held to a 1-1 draw by Persela Lamongan.
Last month during a Liga 1 encounter between Persib and Bhayangkara, which ended in a 0-2 loss for the Bandung club, unhappy Persib supporters invaded the pitch during the match and demanded that Djadjang leave the club.
Djadjang tendered his resignation on June 8 but it was rejected by Persib's management team led by Glenn Sugita, co-founder of Singapore-based private equity firm Northstar Group — Liga 1's main sponsor through its local business unit, the ride-hailing service Go-Jek.
On Sunday, Persib issued a statement on its website saying the club had agreed to release Djadjang: "Persib has accepted coach Djadjang Nurdjaman's resignation after the defeat against Mitra Kukar. We thank him for his professionalism, dedication and loyalty."
"We wish him the best of luck for his future coaching career," the statement added.
Djadjang hinted he might opt to take an extended break after all the stress of coaching Persib.
"I want take a rest, at least for a week. After that, we'll see," he said on the Persib website on Monday.
As head coach, Djadjang took Persib to the top of the Indonesia Super League in 2014 and the President's Cup in 2015.
Persib is now 12th in the Liga 1 table, eight points behind leader Madura United.
