Jakarta. Indonesia's top tier league Liga 1 entered its seventh week with a bold opening from Madura United who clinched a shocking 4-1 victory over military-affiliated club PS TNI on Friday (19/05), with marquee player Peter Odemwingie contributing to all four goals.
The Uzbekistan-born Nigerian striker got his first clear chance in the 15th minute with his free kick hitting the bar, and another failed attempt 12 minutes later as he went head-to-head with TNI keeper Teguh Amiruddin.
In the 17th minute, Odemwingie assisted Nwokolo who opened the score sheet for the home team at Bangkalan Stadium in Madura, East Java.
Only in the 42nd minute, however, did the former English Premier League star finally score, putting his squad up by two after receiving a perfectly-landed cross from fellow countryman Greg Nwokolo.
TNI replied in the 47th minute with a goal of their own from the lofty Argentine Leonel Nunez thanks to an error from Madura's center back Fabiano Beltrame.
Madura, feeling the pressure, put in two more goals in the 59th and 64th minutes by Slamet Nurcahyo and Dane Milovanovic respectively.
Coming off Friday's win, Madura is now ranked second in Liga 1 rankings, while TNI has slipped into the fourth position.
