Jayapura. Persipura Jayapura beat Bali United 3-1 in their Liga 1 match at Mandala Stadium in Jayapura, Papua, on Wednesday (09/08).

Persipura, also known as the Black Pearls, scored all three its goals from a hat-trick by Brazilian striker Addison Alves de Oliveira in the fifth, 43rd and 54th minutes, while Bali replied after 86 minutes with a goal by fellow Brazilian Sylvano Comvalius.

The victory has raised Persipura to the second place on the table of Indonesia's top-tier football league with 34 points, with only one point separating it from the leader, Madura United.

"I am happy and grateful because the boys demonstrated good form, just like in training," Persipura coach Wanderley Machado da Silva Junior said.

The Brazilian coach also praised performances by the two center-backs Mauricio Leal and Ricardo Salampessy, despite them having conceded a late goal.

"Mauricio and Ricardo were very disciplined," the coach said.

Bali United coach Widodo Cahyono Putro meanwhile admitted that his side deserved the loss, despite claiming that the hot weather affected their performance.

"Persipura deserved the win and with that early goal we lost confidence," Widodo said. "The hot weather also made the tempo very slow at the beginning and it indeed sapped our stamina."
