Jakarta. Indonesia's U22 national team will face tough competition during the 2017 Southeast Asian Games as Luis Milla Aspas' squad has been pooled in Group B with Thailand — 15-time winners and defending champions — and one-time winners and seven-time runner-ups Vietnam.
A draw held in Kuala Lumpur on Saturday (08/07) put Indonesia, Thailand, Vietnam, Cambodia, Timor Leste and the Philippines in the same group.
Group A comprises of Malaysia, Myanmar, Singapore, Laos and Brunei.
"We're now focusing on our training in Bali. I think Vietnam and Thailand are the main threats," head coach Milla said.
"Group B has more participants [than Group A], so we'll have more matches and it will have an impact on our chance to advance, but we're ready for it," team manager Endri Erawan said.
The 2017 SEA Games, hosted by Malaysia, will kick off in August.
Indonesia's football team won the Games twice, last time in 1991.
