Indonesia Seeks Cooperation in Technology With Tsinghua University
Jakarta. President Joko "Jokowi" Widodo and Tsinghua University president Qiu Yong discussed opportunities to increase cooperation in the technology sector during the president’s two-day visit to Beijing, China, on Sunday (14/05).
"Tsinghua University is known in Indonesia as one of the best universities for technology. The institution is also known as the school where many of China’s leaders studied," Jokowi said, as quoted from a statement issued by his cabinet secretary.
During the meeting, a letter of intent was signed between Indonesia’s Industry Ministry and Tsinghua University on community empowerment.
Jokowi also said in the statement that he hopes the plan to establish a Tsinghua Southeast Asia Center for innovation and cooperation between the ministry and Tsinghua University will soon come to fruition.
There are currently 40 Indonesian students studying at Tsinghua University.
Jokowi is in Beijing to attend the Belt and Road Forum for International Cooperation on May 14-15, where more than 20 world leaders and representatives of over 130 countries will discuss China’s initiative to revive and expand its ancient network of trade routes, historically known as the Silk Road.
